Ms. Barrett Adams-Simmons is leading the Regional Energy Security Case Studies effort out of the Mission Assurance Division, Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren. Her group initiated a series of case studies at the request of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Homeland Defense and Americas' Security Affairs (ASA (HD&ASA)) to support the Department of Defense's efforts to reduce mission vulnerabilities on the commercial electric power grid, particularly those associated with long-term power outages due to natural and / or manmade hazards (Space Weather, Cyber attacks). To support this effort, Ms. Adams-Simmons is also collaborating throughout the interagency ( the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Energy) with regulatory organizations ( the Federal Energy Reliability Commission, the North American Electric Reliability Corporation) and industry and other entities (Edison Electric Institute) to address regional power reliability and sustainment of DoD missions in the event of an extended commercial power outage. She has a BS degree in Naval Architecture from the U.S. Naval Academy and MA from the Catholic University of America in International Policy.
